What's the deal! No one told me the Olympics are going on, and because the Romanians don't fair as well as others in this, I haven't heard a thing about these games. How is America doing? What happened in opening ceremonies? After two years you still take for granted that I watch TV or hear the news. The only thing we ever hear about is if Romania is playing a soccer game. Keep us posted will ya?
I had my first sick day of my mission this week, and it was a doosy! The Zone Leaders came to stay the night with us on there way to another city and so to be courteous I gave them my semi-decent pillow and I used the other "might as well be plywood for thickness and hardness" piece 'o crap. Well it was hard to fall asleep and I was starting to get a headache, but I eventually fell asleep, until 2:30 a.m. I wake up with a crazy migraine headache and can't fall back asleep. Plus it is really hot so I get up pace around, take some couch pillows and adjust the way I sleep and pop some meds, but nothing helps. I lie there in agony until three and then the my gag reflex kicks in. I get up and barely make it to throw up all meds, water, dinner (just kidding, I haven't had dinner in two years) and whatever weird organisms are living in my stomach. And then throw up 10 more times (don't you love dry heaving?) and to top all of this off, I have diarrhea coming on. I was up til six in the morning in and out of the bathroom, lost six kilos (sadly all water) and didn't sleep at all. I have no idea how many times I threw up but like the success of Ammon among the hardened Lamanites, it was a goodly number. But luckily by ten o'clock I was all good and just slept until five and still got to go and talk with some people. The craziest thing is none of the other elders heard a thing and had no idea why I was up early holding a bucket filled with foamy water. I think I look sick all the time in the mornings anyway because every time I go to church in the morning, members come up and ask if I slept well 'cause I guess I don't look that pretty. So I'm all good now, and it was a fun reminder of my past life of headaches and vomit (I almost went two years without throwing up and that would have been a record for me).
As for anything else, we still have most of the same problems we have been having here for the past few weeks. Our goals for my last three weeks are:
-to not leave the elder who comes in behind me with zero investigators as my predecessor left us with
-to fix and make sure that two more members become strong again to help the few other members here
-to start a tradition of not baptising crazies or those who would take away from the branch
-and finally to get in a fight (I have to release all of my built up rage for the past two years. SEERRRENITTY NOOOOWW)
Its going to take some work, but we are going to make this place a heaven in Romania again before it gets a bad rep.
Other events
-The abominable outrageous Adi (to be told later)
-Seriously over 15 people committed to coming to church (8 from sport night making it a way good tool) and other finds from throughout the course of the week, to have a whopping ZERO show up. It was a great week up until Sunday after Sacrament. Service always makes or breaks the week because you find out who's progressing, keeping commitments and who is interested. If people come it's great and if they don't it ruins your whole week (Lucky that the week ends that night)
-And we made the best banana bread ever
I think my body is starting to shut down now that I know the end is coming. It has never been so hard to get up in the mornings. We are going to go to the exercise park this week just so we have a goal to shoot for in the morning and have some sort of drive. Hopefully it will end in hilarious results. Well all's well that something something... blah, see you in three weeks.
Love, Elder Magleby the Elder
